REVIVE 25 – Preparing in faith for revival
revive 25

As we move into 2025, there is a growing need for a spiritual awakening or revival, in us, our churches, our communities, and our nations.

We know from our history that true revival or spiritual awakening comes from God in answer to the prayers and longings of His people. There is no human formula that says, if we do such and such, revival will automatically come.

However, we do know again from the Scriptures and history that God responded to the desperate and travailing prayers of His people. The prayers were for Him to intervene in the spiritual life of His people, their communities and nations, on the simple yet profound truth that He wants all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 2)

In our recent revival prayer hours, we have sensed four themes amongst many that are an essential part of the spiritual awakening we long to see and be part of.

The four themes are

  • Humility. A broken and contrite heart, turning from what displeases God.
  • The fear of the Lord.
  • Attracting the presence of God.
  • A renewed living and preaching the Bible, the Gospel of Christ Jesus.

In 2 Chronicles 7:14 God says that, “if My people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, seek My face and turn from their wicked ways. Then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land”. God always responds to a humble, seeking, repenting (turning) heart.

Again from the past, we know that a true spiritual awakening affected every sphere of society. People’s lifestyles dramatically changed as the fear of the Lord came upon them, transforming their personal, family, and community life. There are two fears evident as people react and respond to the presence of God coming into their lives, their church and their spheres of influence.

One fear comes through the truth that in rejecting God’s love and offer of salvation as shown in the life, death and resurrection of His Son Christ Jesus, one is bound for a life without hope and true purpose and a fearful, Godless, lost eternity.

The second fear in a spiritual awakening is the fresh understanding of the holiness and awesome wonder of a Triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who is Omnipotent, (all powerful), Omniscient (all knowing) Omnipresent (everywhere at all times) and yet wants us to know Him, worship Him and Love Him as Abba, our Father.

The third theme is attracting the presence of God. It may seem strange to talk about attracting the presence of God, when Jesus promised never to leave us or forsake us. However, the wonderful truth is that as we come to God in true humility and fear, as we come with a heart of worship and adoration, a heart of thanksgiving, a heart of gratitude, a seeking heart, a forgiving heart, this brings great delight to God.   As we draw near to Him, He draws near to us and His presence, through the work of the Holy Spirit, changes everything.

The forth theme is one that we as a team have been both praying into and exercising. To see a spiritual awakening in our land we must see a return to the reading, preaching and living of the Bible, the Word of God, the Gospel and the good news it reveals.

As we, by God’s grace, continue to pray for true spiritual awakening, we are constantly aware of our need of the work of the Holy Spirit in our own lives.  We come as the body of Christ believing to see individuals, our churches, our communities transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.

In faith, we join with God’s people around the clock, around the throne, around the globe. We come to Him in humility, an understanding of the fear of the Lord, with a lifestyle that attracts His presence and a boldness to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed. As we seek Him in faith, we believe God will hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land.

Psalm 85 is a Psalm for 2025.

Journey with us every Wednesday at 9.30 a.m. for our revival prayer hour, as we continue to seek the creator of the universe.  Visit www.worldprayer.org.uk for more details.
