Our friends from the German Bridge have asked if we can pray for the German federal election happening this weekend.
Germany is holding a general election for the house of parliament, the Bundestag, on February 23. Immigration, the state of the economy, foreign affairs, environmental and climate protection are the most important problems that politicians should tackle after the election according to opinion polls.
1. Pray that Germany will receive a government, which is wisely treating the current problems in Germany and in Europe, like immigration, economic challenges and the war in Ukraine. God knows the hearts of the various candidates. Pray that HE will bring those in authority who are right in his eyes.
2. Germany and other European countries, including the UK and France, are at the crossroads of establishing a culture of total personal autonomy. The long-term goals of politicians from some German parties are to install a law to legalize abortions. Many of these politicians also support regulations for facilitation of euthanasia. These policies would result in additional deaths of thousands of unborn children and seriously ill people.
3. Pray for peace and security. Within a short time, several attacks in German cities have been carried out by migrants, some with an Islamist background, resulting in many deaths and serious injuries. These attacks have shocked and frightened many Germans. During the last days, there also have been large demonstrations in several cities. Protesters rallied against the growing far-right extremism. Please pray that extremes from the left and right of the political spectrum do not exploit the negative mood in the population to carry out acts of violence.
