Teenage DC3: ‘My music is a way to share God’

The biggest Christian rapper in the country right now, is a teenage boy called DC3 and his primary priority to “share God” through music. DC3 (Daniel Chenjerai) is an 18-year-old Christian rap artist from Northampton, UK, known for his viral, faith-based music and sharp lyricism.

He might just be the most notable name in UK rap right now. With DJ’s like Charlie Sloth inviting him on to his ‘Fire In The Booth’ platform. The Mobo Awards awarding his Best Newcomer and Best Gospel Act. Collabs with Thiago and Stormy it seems like DC3 is wanted by everyone right now.

But for him his faith in Jesus is his biggest goal and here he tells us why…

“When I was in my early teens, I reached a crossroads. I remember sitting in a sermon where someone said, “Just because you come from a church-going family or your parents are involved in the church, it doesn’t mean you automatically go to heaven.” That really hit me. I’ve learned that just being around people who worship God isn’t enough — you have to have your own relationship with God. I always thought that because my dad is a pastor and my mum is involved in the church, I was kind of set. But that doesn’t mean anything. Now, I view my relationship with God the same way I do with my parents. I don’t just talk to my mum and dad in the morning and at night — I talk to them throughout the day. That’s how it should be with God.”

DC3’s other major goal is to reach others with the message of Jesus through his music.

“Seeing my music reach people across the UK makes me know that what I’m doing is good and can help at least one person. Even trying not to focus on numbers, I remind myself that if one person is impacted by my music, it’s worth it. That really pushes me. It’s given me a lot of confidence to keep going, even when it feels hard, because if I were to stop, it would minimise the chance of someone getting to know about God. I look at my music as a way to share God every time I post or mention anything to do with music.”

Join us praying for DC3 as he opens a door into the secular musical world that no other Christian Rap Artist has had before. His no nonsense uncensored use of the name of Jesus in all his tracks makes him an uncompromising disciple and a great example of how to showcase our faith even on the biggest stages and with the biggest media outlets.

Even when interviewed by the BBC news anchor she faced backlash after ‘hissing’ when musician DC3 names Jesus Christ as his hero.

During the live BBC News interview, Ms Guru-Murthy asked the musician to name his heroes.

The rapper listed Santan Dave and Kendrick Lamar before adding “most of all Jesus Christ”.

Immediately after his answer, the presenter appeared to take a sharp intake of breath, a moment that quickly went viral and was interpreted by some viewers as a disapproving reaction to his religious declaration.

Lord Jesus we pray protection around DC3. We ask that you put angels around him to help guide his footsteps. Holy Spirit be with him in a real and practical way as he navigates the world of music and media. In Jesus Name.
