The situation in Nepal is devastating. The catastrophic flash floods of 26 August, triggered by a glacier collapse in the Himalayas, have particularly affected Rasuwa and Nuwakot. As of 31 August, Nepal’s disaster authority reports 903 confirmed deaths, more than 4,300 people still missing, and over 10,000 rescued. Search teams are continuing to reach people trapped in hydropower tunnels and communities buried by mud and debris.
Pray for Nepal
1. Comfort for those who are grieving
Pray for the hundreds of families who have lost loved ones and for those still desperately waiting for news of missing relatives. Ask God to draw especially close to people facing overwhelming grief.

2. Miracles in the search for survivors
Hundreds of workers are believed to be trapped or missing around hydropower projects, including inside mud-filled tunnels. Pray for breakthroughs as rescue teams work in extremely difficult conditions.
3. Protection for rescue workers
Pray for Nepal’s army, police, emergency services, medical teams, volunteers and international specialists. Ask God to give them wisdom, endurance and protection as unstable ground, landslides and the possibility of further flooding remain concerns.
4. Provision for displaced communities
More than 90,000 people are estimated to have been affected. Pray that food, clean water, shelter, medicines and healthcare will quickly reach isolated communities and that vulnerable children and elderly people will be protected.
5. Hope in the midst of devastation
Pray that churches and Christians across Nepal will be able to demonstrate the compassion of Jesus—comforting those who mourn, serving displaced families and bringing hope into communities experiencing trauma and loss.
6. Wisdom for Nepal’s leaders
Pray for Prime Minister Balendra Shah, national and local government, disaster-management agencies and community leaders as they coordinate rescue operations and begin the enormous task of rebuilding.
7. Protection from further disaster
There are continuing concerns about unstable glaciers, landslides and lakes created by debris that could cause additional flooding. Pray for protection over vulnerable communities and for effective early-warning systems.
A prayer for Nepal
Father, we lift the nation of Nepal before You. Have mercy upon every community devastated by these floods. Comfort those who mourn and strengthen those waiting for news of missing loved ones. We pray for miracles of rescue—for people still trapped to be found alive and brought to safety. Protect and guide every rescue worker, medic and volunteer. Provide shelter, food, clean water and healing for those who have lost everything.
Lord, restrain further flooding and landslides and protect vulnerable communities. Give Nepal’s leaders wisdom and bring nations and organisations together to respond with generosity and compassion. Strengthen Your Church in Nepal to be a light in this darkness, bringing practical help, comfort and the hope of Jesus. May Your peace be present in the midst of this tragedy and may Nepal find strength to recover and rebuild. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
