Welcoming Jesus as King & Lord

Welcoming Jesus as King & Lord

Prayers for the Coronation – 6th May 2023

welcoming Jesus

With so much media coverage over different stories concerning the Coronation and about King Charles III, Queen Camilla and the wider Royal family, we want to focus our gaze on welcoming and enthroning Jesus as King on 6thMay.

These verses Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in’ (Psalm 24:7) have come up at a number of prayer gatherings in preparation for the Coronation as we, and others, have responded to the prompting from the Holy Spirit to enthrone Jesus as the King of glory over the whole service, UK nations and the Commonwealth of Nations. King Charles will be anointed as King but under the Kingship of Jesus!

Let’s come humbly, asking for His mercy and grace, rejoicing in His love (Psalm 145:8).

Let’s proclaim Jesus as Lord over every aspect of the service (Philippians 2:11). A useful commentary has been written https://www.churchofengland.org/coronation/liturgy

May the presence of Jesus be experienced by King Charles III, Queen Camilla, the Royal Family, all who take part, those who attend in Westminster Abbey and by all who watch around our world (Ephesians 1:18).

May the power of God’s word impact all those taking part and watching as it is sung, read, chanted, prayed and spoken by Archbishop of Canterbury (Luke 4:16-21; Colossians 1:9-17).

May the purposes of God be released through all the 15 Commonwealth nations that His Majesty is the Head of State (Psalm 33:1).

May the mercy and protection of God cover every area of London and the UK and that any plans of the enemy to disrupt will be brought into the light (Psalm 20:1).

May the witness of every Christian taking part in Big Lunch community parties, in the Big Help Out and chatting with neighbours point people to Jesus (2 Corinthians 4:5).

May we declare over the whole day, over the King and Queen, and everyone – in the words of Philippians 2:10 ‘Jesus Christ is Lord’…. ‘that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.’
