May your will be done and may your Kingdom come…as we pray for national elections Wales & Scotland, local elections in England on 7 May 2026

“To clasp the hands in prayer is the beginning of an uprising against the disorder of the world.” Karl Barth
Scotland: Almost one third of Holyrood’s 129 MSPs are not standing for re-election and this year 16-year olds can vote for the first time. There have been a number of united prayer gatherings leading up to this election and the prophetic sense (coming from different people) are indicating ‘Scotland is at a turning point’. ‘Scotland is at a fork in the road – whichever direction it takes it will on that road for a long time’. ‘Scotland faces key choices.’
Wales: The election in Wales on May 7th for the Senedd will produce many changes all round, there will be a new voting system and new constituencies…15 of the sitting 40 members have already signalled they will step down… The voting age is also being lowered to 16 so many, new, first-time voters…. Pray for Wales to stand again as a Nation filled with the Glory of God whatever the systems devised by man try to show. Full article: https://worldprayer.org.uk/resources/wales-all-change/
England: It is the largest set of local elections in England for three years and a key test for all political parties. Local elections are being held for 4,851 council seats across 134 of England’s 317 councils. All seats will be contested in: 32 London boroughs; Six county councils; Six unitary authorities, including the newly-created East Surrey and West Surrey; 16 metropolitan districts; 3 district councils. A half of seats will be contested in: 7 district councils. A third of seats will be contested in:12 unitary authorities; 16 metropolitan districts; 38 district councils. Many areas across England will also be electing parish and town councillors. Local turnout tends to be between 30–40% of the electorate.
Many frontline public services are delivered by local councils e.g. transport, social care and libraries. District councils in two-tier local government areas provide local services such as planning, housing, leisure and recycling services. Unitary councils and metropolitan boroughs provide the functions of both county and district councils. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c62nq678nyzo
Let’s pray for: protection over the whole electoral process; fair voting; above average turn-out (especially 16-18-year olds in Wales and Scotland); for those elected, regardless of their political stance, to be those who want to serve their nations/constituencies and for righteous governments to be established nationally and locally.
May your will be done and may your Kingdom come. Matthew 6:10
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. Psalm 145:13
Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things, he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. Daniel 2:20-22
