A tidal wave of prayer has been rising in September and continues through October. God is doing something in the UK!

September 2025 was truly a month of prayer across our British Isles nations as Christians linked in to several prayer calls. 24-7 Prayer celebrated 2175 prayer rooms in 132 nations (1-7 Sept) praising God and lifting his name high for the Global Week of 24-7 Prayer. NB their dates for 2026 are 6-13 September.
Next the National Week of Prayer (6-14 Sept) under their banner of Gather. Remember. Return (Zechariah 1:3) had hundreds of gatherings across the British Isles praying into key areas of society.
That was followed by the next prayer push (12 September and 19 September) around the House of Lords two-day Second Reading debate regarding the Assisted Dying Bill with many organisations holding online prayer gatherings as well as many small groups. The House of Lords has now set up a select committee to scrutinise how the legalisation will work in practice. 67% of peers spoke in opposition and 33% spoke in favour with some as yet undecided. Let’s continue to pray for unity for all those opposed to this, for its defeat and for Baroness Berger who proposed the select committee pathway.
Prayer for the process of deciding the person to be the next Archbishop of Canterbury has been taking place across England (and Isle of Man) in September including a specific prayer focus for every Cathedral and for each Bishop. The Crown Nominations Committee’s work will have finished in September and so we should expect an announcement in October. Let’s continue to pray for whoever has been chosen and for God’s clear direction for all the decision making that will take place within the Church of England’s meeting of Bishops later this year looking forward to General Synod in February 2026.
I was part of the UK team that went to Berlin as part of the UK German prayer and worship bridge 4-7 September where we gathered with those from Germany – east and west – as well as a delegate from France. Our theme was reconciliation, following on from the visit by our German friends to Coventry in 2024. It was a time of deep unity and deep revelation as to God’s heart especially for Germany at this time.
And now the prayer calls continue through October, especially for all those heading off to college and university. “Across the nation, young people are discovering Jesus for themselves—showing up to church uninvited, diving into Scripture, experiencing dreams and visions, and encountering God in fresh ways. Over the next few weeks, thousands of new students will step onto campus for the first time. What an incredible opportunity to share the love of Jesus right where they are.” https://www.fusionmovement.org/. Let’s pray for churches to open their doors and for all the ministries that work on the campuses.
“Prayer is mighty in its operations, and God never disappoints those who put their trust and confidence in Him. They may have to wait long for the answer, and they may not live to see it, but the payer of faith never misses its object” E.M. Bounds
