This is a call to all Churches, Prayer Networks and Intercessors to join us lift up the troubled nations of our continent, especially Congo and Sudan in a 24-hours prayer starting from 00:00 hours WAT , on the 7th to the 8th of March, 2025. The theme of this clarion call is: STANDING IN THE GAP FOR AFRICA (Ezekiel 22:30).
There could be no better time to stand in the gap as Intercessors to pray for our troubled and distressed nations of Africa than now! Our continent is ridden with many crises, too numerous to mention here.
For instance, the DRC has experienced prolonged and complex conflicts since the 1990s, with the Second Congo War (1998-2003) being considered one of the deadliest conflicts in recent history, causing millions of deaths primarily due to disease and malnutrition.
According to recent reports, the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has caused an estimated 10,000 deaths since January 2025, with the majority of casualties occurring in the eastern provinces like North Kivu and South Kivu; the fighting has also displaced around 450,000 people, destroying numerous displacement camps and leaving many without shelter; the M23 rebel group is primarily responsible for the recent escalation, with accusations of Rwandan backing from the DRC government.
Also, as the civil war nears its third year, Sudan’s two warring factions remain locked in a deadly power struggle. Since the conflict began on April 15, 2023, over 20,000 people have been killed, and more than 10 million people been displaced, giving rise to the worst displacement crisis in the world. Nearly 2 million displaced Sudanese have fled to unstable areas in Chad, Ethiopia and South Sudan crowded refugee camps.
According to recent data, Africa faces significant challenges including: extreme poverty affecting over 500 million people, high debt distress risk with 53% of eligible countries at high risk or in debt, lack of access to electricity for 600 million people (43% of the continent), and widespread issues like food insecurity, climate change impacts, unemployment, political instability, and limited access to healthcare in many regions.
The sub-Saharan region of our continent is plagued by drought, hunger and terrorism, to mention a few. As a continent we face the challenges of poor leadership and corruption, and these are only two of the many problems that plague our continent.
May it not be said of our generation, that as God’s watchmen, we remained indifferent and failed to act when our prayers are needed most. We invite you to partner with us in this historic 24-hour prayer for the healing of our continent
