We are not uncritical of the new Boris Johnson government, or the PM’ s character or his Government’ s policies or the newly appointed Cabinet and senior advisors. But we are thankful for all of God’ s purposes – he will use this Government to change our nation.
God’ s heart is to bring us back to him. “See I will refine and test them, for what else can I do because of the sin of my people?” Jeremiah 9:7. We see this taken further in Jeremiah 29 – 31. There is the constant repetition of God’ s purpose – “I will be their God and they will be my people.” But God takes them through difficult times to restore and strengthen that holy relationship. “So you will be my people, and I will be your God” “See the storm of the Lord will burst out in wrath, a driving wind swirling down on the heads of the wicked. The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back till he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come you will understand this. “At that time,” declares the Lord, “I will be God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.” Jeremiah 30:22 – 31:1
We are entering a time of incredible uncertainty and confusion. But our prayer is that God will “fully accomplish the purposes of His heart.” We believe He is shaking the United Kingdom – because He loves us. He looks at our nation and says “Mine”. God’ s heart is to restore His intimate relationship with us and this will shape and drive what happens to the United Kingdom in the coming months.
- Your will be done, your sovereign purpose.
- You are our God, we, the United Kingdom are your people. We praise you – the God who restores, rebuilds and renews.
- Stir up a fresh passion for prayer across the nation.
- There are people of great integrity across all sides of the Brexit debate, raise up wise voices, people who will spot dangers and ways forward, unifiers and peacemakers.
